The Ukrainian army suffers heavy losses and is defeated near Artyomovsk, said the former adviser to the head of the Pentagon, Colonel Douglas McGregor, on the airwaves of the YouTube channel Redacted.
“They are trying to cling to a place called Bakhmut (the Ukrainian name for Artyomovsk. — Ed. approx.). It was built as a logistics hub connecting railways and transport hubs. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are losing, losing thousands of servicemen in battles,” the officer said.
The Ukrainian army, which has lost many experienced fighters, is forced to throw poorly trained recruits into positions, for the training of which it allocated no more than two to three weeks, McGregor stressed.
“They climb into these trenches and literally wait for the moment when they will be destroyed. It is a tragic situation. No sane person would do such a thing,” he concluded.
The day before, McGregor estimated the total casualties of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at 150,000 servicemen, of whom 35,000 were missing. As the colonel said, Kyiv is even mobilizing teenagers aged 13 to 15 to replenish the units.
In November, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also said that, according to experts, more than one hundred thousand Ukrainian soldiers died as a result of the hostilities. Subsequently, this paragraph was completely deleted from the recording of his speech. Von der Leyen’s press service explained this as an “inaccuracy” and said it was “the dead and injured”.
