During the spring-summer period of 2021, eight isolates of the Delta variant of the coronavirus, better known as the “Indian strain”, were found in the Voronezh region. Anna Speranskaya, head of the genomic and post-genomic technologies group at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology in Rospotrebnadzor, announced this to RIA Voronezh on Wednesday, June 23.
In total, health doctors studied more than 200 samples from people infected with COVID-19 in the region for viral mutations. In eight other materials, isolates of the Alpha variant (“British strain”) were noted.
– In all cases of detection, a full range of anti-epidemic measures have been taken. The situation is under control. Monitoring continues,” Speranskaya added.
The incidence of covid in the Voronezh region has been steadily growing since June 8: from 140 cases per day to 209. In this regard, the mass events planned for June and July have been canceled in the region, the crowded events, food courts and attractions, cultural events -entertainment facilities were limited to 50%, children’s rooms were suspended in shopping malls. Additionally, authorities have stopped in-person visits and retirees have been told to stay home if possible.
