The Indian film RRR, one of the most striking scenes of which was shot on the territory of the Mariinsky Palace in Kyiv, received the Golden Globe for the best original song. What else will this film be remembered for, we say this with reference to BBC.
It is the first Golden Globe ever won by an Indian film.
The scene from the movie RRR, in which the main characters dance to the award-winning song, was filmed right at the Mariinsky Palace. The Naatu Naatu (“Dance, Dance!”) soundtrack beat lifters like Taylor Swift and Rihanna.
The song was filmed outside the Ukrainian President’s official residence in the summer of 2021.
Famous Indian composer MM Keeravani became the author of the music for the song, singers Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj became performers.
Even India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejoiced at the song’s success, congratulating the team on their victory.
The film RRR (Rise Roar Revolt – “The Revolution Roars Near”) in Telugu – one of India’s 22 official languages - was filmed for several years. It was released in March 2022 and can be watched on Netflix.
RRR is a historical fantasy that tells the story of two revolutionaries fighting against British rule in India.
The Village Ukraine in 2021 wrote that Kyiv was chosen for filming due to the pandemic. The British actors involved in the filming could not travel to India and the Indian film crew could not travel to European Union countries. And to shoot some scenes, they chose Ukraine, including Kyiv and Mezhyhirya.
Permission was obtained from the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Ukrainian choreographers Elena Shoptenko and Maxim Leonov also took part in staging the film’s dance scenes in Kyiv, NV reported.
Leading film publication Rolling Stones named RRR the “Best Breakthrough Blockbuster” of 2022.
“If any film deserved to be seen on the big screen with the crowd, this is it,” writes film critic David Fier.
RRR is considered the most expensive film in the history of Indian cinema.
RRR was also among the Golden Globe nominees for Best Non-English Language Film, but Argentina 1985 won the award.
